Getting Off to a Smooth Start

Here’s what you need to do on the first day of school (Monday, 8/26) to ensure a smooth start to the 2019-2020 school year.

Steps include:

  1. Arrival
  2. Parking or curb drop-off
  3. Signing in your child
  4. Bringing paperwork to the office
  5. Signing out and picking up your child

Please drive slowly in the parking lots. Arrival is busy and there will be many families crossing the lot. Watch for small children, who may dart away from parents.

Parking or Curb Drop-off

South Campus

(Toddlers, Jean and Maryhelen, Sara, Nikki, Emily, and Teesie’s classes)

Park in the parking spots if you are walking your child to class. The curb is reserved for curb-side drop-off for Primary and Elementary classes. If you park and force the curb line to go around you, you increase the chances of an accident occurring.

Curb drop-off for Elementary students is available 8:15 – 8:30 a.m.

Curb drop-off for Primary students is available 8:50 – 9 a.m. (staff members accompany Primary students to class).

North Campus

(Kara and Jenny, Maria and Jennifer, Kelly, Roslyn, Venus)

To drop off Primary children, park in the parking lot and walk your child to class. If you arrive 8 – 8:45 a.m., park on the street as Grove and Elementary drop-off happen at these times.

To drop off Elementary students, line up on the left side of the parking lot closest to the buildings no earlier than 8:15 a.m. Grove families drop off 8-8:15 a.m.. Please do not block them from exiting. There will be a staff member there to assist with drop-off. If you choose to walk your child to the classroom, park on the street as the parking lot is very busy.

Drop-off Times

Toddler and Primary students may be dropped off no earlier than 8:50 a.m. unless signed up for morning childcare or if they have an Elementary sibling. Students with Elementary siblings may be dropped off no earlier than 8:30 a.m. This drop-off time is not available to students without an Elementary sibling.

Elementary students may be dropped off 8:15 – 8:30 a.m. unless signed up for morning childcare.

MIR strictly enforces drop-off and pick-up times to remain compliant with licensing and state labor laws.

Signing in Your Child

Legible Signatures

Sign in using full, legible signatures. State law requires that we collect full, legible signatures on our sign-in/out sheets (no initials, no scribbles).

Verify Your Child’s Times

As you sign your child in on Monday, verify that the the drop-off and pick-up times on the sign-in sheet match your expectations. If they don’t, please notify the office immediately.

Bring Paperwork to the Office

Health forms for new students or students moving into 1st year Elementary must be turned in by the first day of school. If you have been asked for any additional paperwork, such as updated immunization records, please bring them to the office.

Signing Out and Picking Up Your Child

  • Elementary students must be picked up between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. unless signed up for afternoon childcare. Elementary pick-up is safest when all parents use the curb pick-up service.
  • Primary and Toddler students with Elementary siblings must be picked up no later than 3:30 p.m. unless signed up for an all-day (9 a.m. – 5 p.m.) program.
  • Primary and Toddler students with programs ending at 11:45 a.m., 12 p.m., 3 p.m., or 5 p.m. must be picked up on time.

There is no grace period for picking up your child.

Be sure to sign our your child on the sign-in/out sheet. State law requires that all children be signed for. Failure to sign out may incur a fee.

Elementary Pick-up: South Campus

On the south campus, line up starting at the seating area between Sara’s and Nikki’s classes no earlier than 3:20 p.m. A staff member will go through the line to let you sign out your children. Children will be at curb promptly at 3:30 p.m. and all children already signed out can immediately go to their parents.

Please refrain from getting out of your car to sign your child out. Teachers must always attend to the cars in the line first to ensure that they are out of the main road, which has posed safety concerns in the past. If you must park and walk to curb to sign your child out, you will need to wait until the car line has diminished to sign out.

Elementary Pick-up: North Campus

Please do not line up for curbside pick-up before 3:20 pm. The Grove School and two of our Primary classes dismiss at 3 p.m., and if you line up early, you block their ability to get in and out of the parking lot.

Parents of students in Venus’ and Roslyn’s classes should form a line on the left-hand side of the lot. Parents of students in Kelly’s and Kristen’s classes should form a line on the right side. Elementary families with students in more than one Elementary class on the north campus should meet their children in the youngest sibling’s Elementary line.

Parents are asked to remain in their cars in the designated line in the parking lot. Staff will bring the sign-out sheet and your child to your car.
